Objective : The overall aim of these programmes is to prepare a graduate nurse for working as frontline workers in the clinical and community field and educational arena.
In its pursuit of excellence, the Faculty of Health Sciences, SIU proposes to start the Symbiosis College of Nursing with the state of the art educational facilities under the aegis of the SIU. The WHO day's theme for the year 2006 was "Working Together for Health". This theme highlights the challenging and often inspiring work carried out by the health care workers. To achieve the millennium development goals and to deal with dire health threats, it has become necessary to increase the number of health care providers and support staff.
The global population is rising but the number of health care workers is decreasing relatively. With more and more nurses migrating abroad, India is facing an acute shortage of faculty and clinical practitioners. This necessitates the initialization of more and more educational institutions to meet local, national and global demand for health care providers. Keeping in view the WHO's theme of working together for health, Symbiosis proposes to train and develop quality professionals to provide health care services at the grassroots and to meet the global demand.
Through its pioneering efforts, the Symbiosis College of Nursing aims to create leaders in the nursing professionals by providing unique, innovative programmes that are responsive to the market need, keeping in mind the rapid advance in the health care sector in India as well as abroad.
The curriculum emphasizes on a holistic approach to nursing care, in order to ensure an all rounded and trained nursing professional who meets the international standards in terms of quality of education and service provided. This in totality ensures numerous career avenues for a SCON graduate in the healthcare industry across the world.
The SCON has associated with major tertiary care hospitals of the city to provide the necessary "hands on" clinical and para clinical experience, necessary for the students pursuing these hospital based academic programmes. A formal Memorandum of Understanding has been signed with the major private as well as government hospitals in Pune for the same. Symbiosis College of Nursing thus aims to create a benchmark in Nursing education in India. |

We believe that the world is one family and education is the right of every child of this country and any level of education should equip the student to be able to gain fruitful employment and also provide an opportunity to continue education whenever possible.
We believe that nursing education must occur in a natural setting that is the clinical and the community setup.
We also believe that education should be flexible enough to promote vertical and horizontal growth and mobility.
We believe that the nurse educator's responsibility lies in providing the right experiences to the student and allowing the student to explore and learn while enjoying this learning experience. |
