SCON library was established in the year 2007 with an objective to access the adequate reading material to the students and there by expand their knowledge base in Nursing:

SCON library has implemented KOHA integrated library Management software. OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue) of books and other reading material are accessible from any location. OPAC consists of books, AV material, print journals and magazines, Theses ( http://symbiosis-koha.informindia.co.in ).
There are total 4 four sections in the library: Circulation Section, Reference Section, Reading Hall, Journals and IT Zone

General Rules for SCON Students
  • Every member of the staff must register its library membership by filling the prescribed from.
  • The membership of the student shall be registered from the list submitted by the Institutional administrative office.
  • Every member of the library will be required to show Identity Card/Library Card/Smart Card provided by the respective Institute/Library while enjoying the library facilities.
  • The library resources (like books, journals, periodicals, CDs, DVDs etc.) shall be issued to the members as per the circulation guidelines of respective institute.
  • A member shall be required to return the resource/ book issued to him/ her any time if asked by the library.
  • A member shall return/ renew the resource issued to him/ her on or before the due date.
  • A member failing to return/ renew the resource within the specific time shall be liable for the payment of fine as prescribed in the circulation policy of the respective institute.
  • A member losing the library resource issued to him/ her shall follow the replacement rules as per the circulation policy of SIU.
  • A member entering the library shall keep his/ her bags and other belongings outside the library on their own responsibility.
  • A member willing to take books/ notebooks inside the library shall enter the details in the register at the security gate.
  • A member shall be allowed to take photocopies of the required contents from the Reference Books / Current Issues of periodicals etc. with the prior permission of library staff.
  • A member shall not write upon or damage or mark any signs/ symbols/ remarks on any book belonging to the library.
  • A member taking wrong book from the shelf shall keep it on the book trolley or on the nearest table and shall not reshelf himself/ herself.
  • A member shall not deface, mark, cut, mutilate or damage library resources in any way. (A person doing so shall be liable for heavy penalty)
  • A member shall not be allowed to issue any library resource to anyone else.
  • A member/ user may suggest /recommend book(s) which are useful for their study through SIU OPAC. (http://symbiosis-koha.informindia.co.in).
  • A member entering the library shall observe all the disciplinary rules of SIU.
  • A Member shall observe silence in the library.
  • A member is requested to keep his/ her mobile switched off or in silent mode in the Library.
  • A member shall not engage in conversation in any part of the library
  • A member leaving the library shall co-operate with the checkout mechanism and the security.
  • A member is not allowed to cut any news or part of a newspaper.
  • Beverages and eatables are not allowed inside the library.
  • No photograph of the Library shall be taken without the prior permission of the Librarian.
  • All students shall be allowed in the library decently dressed only as they are allowed in the classrooms
  • The University Librarian/ Library In-Charge reserves the right to suspend the membership of any member found misbehaving, abusing the library staff or behaving in an indecent manner

Membership is by default extended to

  1. Faculty (Full time and Visiting) and staff of Symbiosis College of Nursing.
Rules for the Members
  1. Students, Faculty and Staff of SCON avail the facility by producing the Library card of the SCON. Library-card is the only mandatory criteria to avail SCON library membership.
  2. Members should adhere to the dress code of the institute.
  3. Reading Hall Members should carry their own material for study.
  4. Library will terminate the member in case of misbehavior / violation of rules.
Library Services for in-house (SCON) Users

1.Inter Library Loan (ILL):

Library arranges to borrow Books that are not available in SCON library on Inter Library Loan from other Symbiosis libraries. This is done on an Institution-to-Institution basis. Such materials will have to be handled with utmost care and returned to the library well on time. This service is provided for academic and research purpose to the faculty, registered students of SCON and staff who are members of the SCON library.

Members are requested to send a formal request to the library with complete bibliographic details of Book which can be accessed via the WEB-OPAC.


2.Referral Services:

Library offers individualized service to assist students, faculty, researchers and staff in locating the required information i.e. book or magazine/journal location in the library

Locate information in the library and elsewhere.

Answer specific information questions.

3.New Additions of Books:

Library brings out a monthly list of books added to the collection. This list is sent to the library users over the email.


4.Plagiarism Checking Service:

Library offers Plagiarism Checking Service using a ‘Turnitin’ tool to its registered users. Turnitin is leading originality checking and plagiarism prevention web tool which allows researchers to compare their contents against the massive databases to ensure the work is original before submission. SIU Central Library has a paid license to this tool and given account to SCON Library.

At the moment library is checking Plagiarism for students’ assignment and dissertation as well as for faculties for their research articles on prior base intimation.


5.Document Delivery Service:

SCON library provides Document Delivery Service to its registered users. If the required articles or research papers which comes in the journals is available in the subscribed database then SCON library send the full text to its users and if the required information access in full text is not available in subscribed database then SCON library coordinates with its mother concern to provide its users with the requested materials.

Borrowing Rules

  • Books which are labeled / stamped as reference books are not for borrowing.

  • Library is authorized to declare/hold certain books as reference material according to the demand. The book may not be labeled as Reference material.

  • Old loose issue of magazines only can be borrowed. New/Latest issues and back volumes are for reference only.

  • Borrowing period for particular material can shrink according to the demand.

Web OPAC is an Online Public Access Catalogue which allows library users avail the services of the library using Internet. Every library member gets the access of Web OPAC where he/she can check his/her circulation history, recommend new book titles to the library, create own reading list of favourite books etc.

E-Resources

Library Portal: https://library.siu.edu.in/

Library members can get the access of all e-resources on library portal. To access these e-resources you should have the login credentials for it. Every year newly admitted student’s registration is done according to their course duration by the librarian.

Once the registration is completed members get the access of all e-resources purchased by the SIU Central library. Also, all institutionally subscribed databases, e-books and e-journals can be accessed through this library portal.

FAQs of the Library

1. Who can access the library Services?

Students, Faculty, Visiting Faculty, Adjunct Faculty and Staff of Symbiosis College of Nursing can access the SCON library services. Also other institute’s users of Symbiosis can refer the books of SCON Library in the Library Premises only. Identity card & Library card is mandatory to enter SCON Library.

2. Can I bring the personal book in the library?

You can carry own books to the library by making necessary entries in daily log register.

3. How many books a member get issued?

5. What are the overdue charges against late return of the book?

Over dues, as laid down hereunder, shall be charged from the students if they fail to return the book(s) on or before the deadline as indicated on the Due-Date-Slip in the book:

Fine will be charged including all Sundays and Holidays.

Rs.5.00 per book per day shall be charged

6. I have lost the library Book, What I require to do?

First you should immediately report to the circulation desk at the library.In case a book/magazine/Journal is lost; the borrower has to replace the same with the latest Edition/Version of the material. If the copy is out of print then the user has to pay the cost of the material along with the overdue amount of fine within 15 days from the reporting. 

7. Where can I make a suggestion to the library?

“Suggestion Box” placed at the entrance of the library where you can drop-in your valuable suggestion(s). You can also email the suggestions at library@sihspune.org

8. How can I recommend a book for purchase in the Library?

Students can give their recommendations through the Web OPAC. Login with your PRN fill the form and submit it.

9.How can I access the E-Recourses?

As it is mentioned on the web site under the E-Resources. You can access these databases through the login credentials of SIU Central library Gateway Portal which is been issued to all the registered students of SCON. Those who don’t know the credentials can contact to the library. Only Symbiosis students and faculty can access these databases through their own login credentials.
